About:

Long Beach High School’s Student Organization hosted its most successful “Trick or Treating for Canned Goods” event yet, with a total of 1,590 cans of food collected for a local food pantry. For this annual initiative, students venture out into this very giving community on Halloween and request canned goods instead of candy. The donations help those in need throughout the holiday season.

Student Organization adviser Dr. Matthew Morand and the high school’s facilities staff members transported the cans to St. Ignatius Martyr Church’s food pantry, where gracious volunteers will distribute them. Last year’s 900 cans supported the pantry until this past May, and this recent effort is expected to last beyond the winter as well.

The Student Organization’s mission to make a difference continued when the group carried out the first of three blood drives on Nov. 3. Students donated enough blood to save more than 125 lives. The district congratulates the participants on a job well-done, and offers special thanks goes to the Long Beach and Island Park communities for their support.
